A contractor fell from an Alabama water tower while he was painting it. The construction accident happened outside of Hurtsboro on Wednesday evening. There were three other contractors painting with him when he fell.

Officials in the Russell County Sheriff’s Department say at this point they do not think foul play was involved in the incident.

“He was being suspended from a rope on top of the water tower in the harness and it appears that there might have been some malfunction of the equipment that caused the fall,” said Lieutenant Heath Taylor, investigator for the Russell County Sheriff’s Department.

The 28-year-old victim was from Marion County and was employed by B&H Paint Company. His coworkers tried to rescue him and break his fall, but they were unable to do so. The accident is being investigated by local officials as well as officials from the Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
