A subsidiary of the world’s largest retailer has issued a voluntary recall along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission of outdoor oil lamps.
Sam’s Club is recalling some 138,000 outdoor oil torches because the ceramic head of the lamp can become loose and fall off, spilling torch fuel everywhere. Sam’s Club has also received reports of the torch head becoming dislodged and falling off, smashing on the ground. Both Sam’s Club and the CPSC have urged consumers to stop using the torches immediately. The retailer has pulled the torches from its shelves.
The recalled torch is six feet tall with a green, ceramic open-flame lamp, and it is attached to a brown cast iron pole and stand. The lamp can be disconnected from the base to be placed directly in the ground.
There have been reports of injuries in which people have suffered burns, cuts, and more serious lacerations. In all, there have been 107 reports of the ceramic torch head separating from the base.
