Cement mixer truck overturns

Comments Off

Dateline Alabama.com reported a Thursday truck accident involving an overturned cement mixter truck on Tuscaloosa’s New Watermelon Road. The accident clogged traffic to North River for more than one hour.

The driver was injured, but later released from the hospital.

According to the story:

The accident highlighted a longstanding concern about access to and from North River on New Watermelon Road in case of accidents or bridge malfunctions.

The only recourse in that case for drivers would be a 22-mile detour around Lake Tuscaloosa.

A solution to the problem, the McWrights Ferry Road extension, has been lost in state bureaucracy since 1989. The Alabama Department of Transportation blames a lack of federal funding.
