Train accident kills farm worker

Comments Off

An unusual train accident occurred Friday afternoon in Limestone County, where a farm worker operating a fertilizer spreader collided with a freight train in Belle Mina at Greenbrier Road.

The victim was a Limestone Farmer’s Cooperative employee and Clements firefighter, and he died immediately. An article in the Decatur Daily includes quotes from many of the victim’s friends, as he was well-loved and respected in the community.

No one on the train was injured. The gas tank of the fertilizer spreader was apparently empty, so no hazardous materials situation occurred. The railroad warning signals were reported to be working at the crossing.

This train accident was yet another of many recent Alabama train collisions, but the first one that involved farming equipment.
