Contaminated pet foods cause more than 14 pet deaths

Comments Off

A report from USA Today says that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has confirmed at least 14 animal fatalities resulting from contaminated pet foods.

The FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine is still investigating the cause for the contamination of pet foods manufactured by Menu Foods of Ontario, Canada. A pet food recall of at least 91 brands is concerning pet owners across the country. The recall affects many “cuts and gravy” dog and cat foods sold in cans and pouches.

Investigators suspect that wheat gluten, a substance in the pet foods that thickens the gravy, may be the culprit, as Menu Foods recently went with a new supplier for that ingredient.

Defective or contaminated dog products and cat products include long lists that can be found at the links included here.
